Still dependent upon Japan ?

I am surprised at the news of US barring some food imports from Japan (milk, milk products, fresh vegetables, fruits etc.) due to fears of radiation and nuclear contamination in the wake of an earthquake and tsunami disaster.
WHY SHOULD I BE SURPRISED AT THIS NEWS WHICH IS VERY COMMON THING THAT ANY COUNTRY WOULD DO IN SUCH A SITUATION.
BECAUSE :-
INSTEAD OF IMPORTING ABOVE ITEMS, THEY SHOULD’VE BEEN PRODUCING MILK, MILK PRODUCTS, VEGETABLES, FOODGRAINS, FRUITS TO MEET THEIR REQUIREMENTS RATHER THAN DEPENDING UPON SUCH A SMALL COUNTRY……..HA HA HA….Superpower.
Anyway, I am referring dictionary to see what “SELF-RELIANT ” means.
Sometimes I think stupid.......sorry I can’t help !

Thanks for your comments. I think, my point is not clear to you. I am not talking about radiation or its impact, but something else. Every country despite having capacity, don’t produce food, dairy products and other eatables enough to meet their internal demand but depend on others. If this is done, not only greenery will be preserved but millions of jobs will also be created and people will become happy.

I always see a different message behind every activity that’s taking place.

  4. well my dear friend! livin in US..and being an indian by birth ..we have have common tendency to laugh at others without knowing the realities....
US imports maximum stuff and saves its resources for crisis...all countries want to jump in US market...Indian stuff available here I had never seen such fine quality in india..its only for export purpose...
Groceries are very reasonable ...compared to IRS...
I was surprised the by the inflation in India...
in spite of importing stuff (US)they still manage to keep prices in control and feed the people best products from the world....They create jobs for other countries...outsourcing is one of them....
Its a superpower for other countries....but we as citizens have lot of respect for the place we live in and who takes care of us as people from different nationalities!

Thank you for detailed view. The good practice by US of importing maximum stuff and saving resources for crisis should be followed by all.
Here, we produce very good stuff but greedy exporters are making things worse……they continue to export even during shortages. It is official that 40% people hardly get food once a day here. When US can manage things so well, why can’t we ?

It was nice to read that “in spite of importing stuff, US still manages to keep prices in control and feed the people best products from the world”…….. frankly speaking, this is what every one of us are looking for. We are not poor country but poorly managed country.

I wish every ppl living here think and behave like you wrote, “but we as citizens have lot of respect for the place we live in and who takes care of us as people from different nationalities”

Thank you once again for taking interest reading my postings and placing your invaluable comments regularly.
