HOW TO DESTROY POLYTHENE ?

Few years back, I was told by some elderly person (who is no more today) to burn used polythene bags in earthen pot (मटका). I don’t know why he told me this but as a mark of respect towards him, I started this. The result was encouraging as till now, I am able to destroy kilos and kilos of Polythene bags, which has so far found their way into my home. It really gives me and my family, great satisfaction and pleasure on doing so as if we have conquered the battle against Enemy (since I am perturbed to see cows consuming Polythene bags in streets leaving me helpless and watch merely like a spectator). I also know that we Indians are hypocrites when it comes to practice good things. Our approach towards cleanliness is only visible on TV or on the Net (we are well aware of our ground realities).

All over the world, we are known for loving animals, especially worshipping Cows and caring for them (I don’t know why. Had cows not been giving us Milk, their fate would have been even worse. I see similar condition of elderly people, the treatment they normally get from their younger generation. I am sorry to bring irrelevant issue here, but I am hurt to see all this) Frankly speaking, we are the people who behave in a filthiest manner with our pets.

Coming back to subject, in Indian context, at present, it is not possible for us to prevent this intruder (Polythene) coming into our homes. I convinced most of the neighbours in my colony and large number of people who are working for protection of environment, to adapt this new technique to contribute towards “Pollution Control” and which costs no money.

Initially, I was questioned about air pollution that it would create on burning Polythene but on regularly searching on the Net, I found out a way. I convinced questioners that technology to absorb CO2 from air is already there and is working satisfactorily and therefore they need not worry. No doubt, Scientists are capable to find out solution to every problem but, it is upto Industrialists and Politicians (whether it suits them or not) to implement.

With this article, I am seeking likeminded people’s cooperation to spread this idea all over India. I am sure, sensitive citizen of my country will definitely extend their helping hand using credit of their popularity. Details to absorb CO2 can be viewed here :-

  6. a VERY SENIOR ENGINEER OF POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD,A CHEMICAL ENGINEER TAUGHT ME THAT CARRY BAGS ARE MADE FROM POLYTHENE WHOSE CHEMICAL FORMULA IS JUST A COMBINATION OF CARBON AND HYDROGEN.BURNING IT IN OPEN AIR PRODUCES CO2 AND WATER VAPOR - BOTH VERY MUCH REQUIRED IN NATURE. THUS I BURN ALL THE BAGS
